Stepping Up to Leadership Workshop Programme

The effectiveness of business leaders’ “mastermind” groups as an opportunity for learning and a safe space to discuss issues is well established.

This programme is a chance for newly appointed managers to gain similar benefits and establish themselves in their new roles, not always a straightforward process; in particular, to be supported in becoming the person they need to be to do the new job.

Build leadership skills systematically

This “Stepping Up” workshop programme follows the same principles as business leaders’ workshop, such as two groups run for CeeD and is intended to provide an opportunity for high potential leaders to develop quickly.

I have reputation for creating a safe and highly informative space for development as a leader and for asking the right questions and providing pragmatic solutions and practical steps to progress.

This group is ideal for newly appointed or promoted managers or others in equivalent roles in manufacturing, engineering, technology development, biotech, medical devices, life sciences and scientific research, and service providers to those sectors.

Each session provides a blend of working on participants’ current issues and engaging with key ideas and perspectives.

Themes covered over the sessions include topics such as:

  • Growing into the new role and achieving results
  • Presence and resilience
  • Professional relationship skills and influence up, down, across and outside the organisation
  • Culture
  • Being organised, time management and establishing process
  • Effective delegation
  • Strategic thinking and implementing strategy
  • Working on the business and leading change
  • Making decisions… and much more

The programme consists of a monthly workshop of an hour and a half. The programme is online to ease attendance and keep costs to a minimum.

Testimonials

“A very much needed chance to step back and analyse your own behaviour and think how you can adapt it to get a better outcome. Focussed on looking inward and taking responsibility for what you can control to get better results from important and/or difficult conversations.”

Mark Drummond, Engineering Manager, Mitsubishi Air Conditioning Systems Europe

“David’s easy manner allows freedom of expression throughout the group, yet manages to squeeze in some very effective learning material as we go.”

Brian Frame, Managing Director, Rautomead

“David brings his coaching and facilitation skills to our peer group, not only by providing his knowledge and expertise, but, perhaps more importantly, having the rare knack of asking the right probing questions of us as individuals and as a group.”

Steve Ross, CEO at Shackleton Technologies

“David’s ability to associate themes and encourage peer learning, sometimes around sensitive issues, speaks to David’s expertise as an extremely skilful facilitator and chair of group coaching sessions.”

Dr Jennifer Rao-Williams, Design Fellow Knowledge Exchange + Impact I Creator

“Having worked with David as part of the CeeD West Leadership group/programme, I have been hugely impressed by not only his insight but also his ability to encourage some very difficult conversations in an open and honest way, that allowed the whole room to not only share but also feel like we had taken a lot from it.”

How many people are in the workshop group?

Typically from about 8 through to 25. On any given day, some participants will have other commitments and so the number attending live will be fewer. Those who can’t make it catch up with the recording. The small group size provides opportunity for work on participants’ individual issues and opportunities. A peer-to-peer learning aspect is always included.

Do participants have to join at the start of the programme?

No. Each workshop stands on its own and new participants can join after the first session to ease organisation of the programme. Once someone has joined the programme and decided it’s a fit for them, there is an expectation that they will stay engaged, even if they can’t make every session, unless or until they decide the programme is no longer adding value for them. Commitment is important for all participants.

How long does a programme last?

Participants stay with the programme for as long as they find it useful. The workshops continue indefinitely. The Stepping Up programme should be participated in at least six months to achieve a level of breakthrough.

How does payment for the programme work?

The fee for the programme is a monthly figure. Many clients prefer to be invoiced for their attendance for payment by bank transfer. That can be organised monthly, or in blocks of months to cut down administration. Where several people from the same company are attending programmes, normally these will be invoiced in a single invoice, for one or a number of months. Payment by credit card can also be arranged.

Do you provide a discount for multiple months or attendees?

The programme fee is already set at an introductory level and anticipates payment for blocks of months and/or people. The programme is already very good value.

Can I receive individual coaching and support alongside the programme?

Yes. One-to-one sessions can also be incorporated in the programme.

Can you deliver an in-house version of this programme to a group of our leaders?

Yes. In-house programmes have been delivered. Please get in touch to discuss the approach you need.
