Strategic Leaders Workshop Programme

The effectiveness of business leaders’ “mastermind” groups as an opportunity for learning and a safe space to discuss issues is well established.

This programme is a chance for other senior leaders to have a similar experience, with a peer group, specifically focused on developing strong strategic leadership.

Strengthen yourself as a strategic leader

This workshop series focuses on the practical realities of strengthening yourself as a strategic leader of your organisation and getting the whole team pointing consistently in the same purposeful direction.

Unfortunately, we face a counter-intuitive truth: You can’t control your way to alignment.

Instead, to achieve genuine commitment from which momentum will really build, we need to let go of absolute control (albeit in the context of clear outcome expectations) and cultivate the sustained, self-organising, interdependent, coherent behaviour that will deliver the breakthrough we need.

We can, however, take a systematic approach to achieving this counterintuitive shift, creating breakthroughs for organisations struggling with competing initiatives and wasted effort.

This workshop series focuses on practical strategic alignment and the insights and approaches that help directors and senior managers be effective cultivators of self-sustaining business success.

The programme consists of a monthly online workshop of an hour and a half, in which David will:

  1. progressively convey the systematic approach to strategic leadership he has found so effective and
  2. suggest solutions to challenging leadership issues you bring to the workshop.

The programme is online to ease attendance and keep costs to a minimum.

Topics include:

  • Moving from control to alignment and why this creates breakthrough momentum
  • Developing clear purpose, vision and balanced strategic direction
  • How to finish strategic debates so your teams genuinely commit, not just comply
  • Building the relationship skills, trust and interdependence making self-organisation possible
  • Releasing control while maintaining clear expected outcomes
  • Modelling alignment in the senior team so that it cascades throughout the organisation
  • Creating agility without chaos and focus without rigidity
  • Effective delegation, coaching and distributed leadership
  • Achieving more with the same or fewer resources
  • Increased staff engagement, discretionary effort and retention
  • Holding the big conversations, with honesty
  • Transforming business results

How many people are in the workshop group?

Typically from about 8 through to 25. On any given day, some participants will have other commitments and so the number attending live will be fewer. Those who can’t make it catch up with the recording. The small group size provides opportunity for work on participants’ individual issues and opportunities.

Do participants have to join at the start of the programme?

No. Each workshop stands on its own and new participants can join after the first session to ease organisation of the programme. Once someone has joined the programme and decided it’s a fit for them, there is an expectation that they will stay engaged, even if they can’t make every session, unless or until they decide the programme is no longer adding value for them. Commitment is important for all participants.

How long does a programme last?

Participants stay with the programme for as long as they find it useful. The workshops continue indefinitely. The Strategic Leaders’ programme has a 12-topic structure, which takes around a year to work through progressively. After that, additional topics are introduced and previous ones revisited at a deeper level of detail. The peer-to-peer learning aspect is always included.

How does payment for the programme work?

The fee for the programme is a monthly figure. Many clients prefer to be invoiced for their attendance for payment by bank transfer. That can be organised monthly, or in blocks of months to cut down administration. Where several people from the same company are attending programmes, normally these will be invoiced in a single invoice, for one or a number of months. Payment by credit card can also be arranged.

Do you provide a discount for multiple months or attendees?

The programme fee is already set at an introductory level and anticipates payment for blocks of months and/or people. The programme is already very good value.

Can I receive individual coaching and support alongside the programme?

Yes. The Strategic Leaders’ programme includes email support between meetings. One-to-one sessions can also be incorporated in the programme.

Can you deliver an in-house version of this programme to a group of our leaders?

Yes. In-house programmes have been delivered. Please get in touch to discuss the approach you need.
